Grant
of License Authorizing Telecom Services Between the U.S.
and
Cuba
The
Federal Communications Commission, with sign-off by the U.S.
Department of State as well as a companion licensing by the U.S.
Department of Treasury, recently granted a
Cuba
214
certificate and license to a U.S.
company,
a client of LOCTW. This
special 214 certificate authorizes the licensee to provide voice and data services
between the United States
and Cuba.
LOCTW lawyers advised on and coordinated the licensing process for all
three federal agencies.
Successful
Licensing and Activation of a Regional Fiber Optic Submarine Cable System
LOCTW
lawyers were successful in obtaining licenses necessary to permit the
construction and operation of the recently activated SMPR-1 fiber optic
submarine cable system. This
state of the art submarine cable is connected by fully switched landing
station facilities located in
Country St.
Maarten (as of 10/10/10)
and
San
Juan,
Puerto
Rico.
LOCTW lawyers are now advising on the next phase of development
which, once fully constructed, will provide broadband carriage on an
intra-regional basis as well as broadband throughput to the wider global
community.
LOCTW Appointed to Advise Dutch Territories in Caribbean on Numbering Protocol
LOCTW was recently appointed by the Government of Country Sint Maarten (as of 10/10/10) to provide advice and coordinate the establishment of a numbering resource under the 721 NPA code assigned Sint Maarten by the North American Numbering Plan (NANP). Once implemented, this numbering protocol will allow carrier customers in Dutch (Caribbean) Territories to use the 721 code to provide short term visitors access to and use of the more familiar NANP dialing standard.
LOCTW Attorneys Negotiate Licensing Agreement with Cuban Record Labels
LOCTW attorneys successfully negotiate certain licenses and use rights with Cuban record labels Egrem and BISMusic that now permit digitized Cuban music to be sold in MP3 format via U.S. networked facilities.
